Validating Quality in Large-Scale Digitization

Physical Characteristics of Original Source

Data from First Production Run Sample

Project staff physically reviewed nearly all of the 1,000 volumes sampled for the first production run. The survey is based on prior condition studies in the preservation community. The physical review gathered data on the material characteristics of the volume and important bibliographic elements of the volume. The physical review data was then mapped to error coding through the volume's unique barcode. The analysis will explore possible correlation between physical or bibliographic characteristics and the incidence of error in the digital surrogate. Results
